Even though Concord stopped down more than a month ago, updates are still being made to the Steam version of the game. The community seemed uninterested in Concord when Sony originally announced it earlier this year. When Concord was revealed as a live-service, multiplayer-only hero-shooter game, many fans were dissatisfied because Sony is best known for its popular single-player games.

The community also reacted negatively to Concord’s character designs, and the great majority of PlayStation fans instantly disregarded the game when it was released as a $40 premium product. With Concord’s greatest concurrent player count on the platform not even reaching 700, PC Steam players rejected it in even larger proportions. Sony said that Concord was closing just a few weeks after it launched, but there was still hope that the game may ultimately return.

Recent events raise the possibility that Concord is attempting some sort of return. Theonewithcats, a Reddit user, observed that Concord’s files on the site are still being updated; the most recent update was made available on October 8. Although the reason for these post-shutdown changes is unknown, many are conjecturing that the creators could be converting Concord into a free-to-play game.

Concord Steam Version is Still Getting Updates

Compared to how things went when Concord was a $40 game, it should see a significant increase in player numbers if it becomes free to play. However, Concord will still have a difficult road ahead of it. One of the main reasons why many players didn’t bother with Concord was its widely criticized character designs, which won’t suddenly become more appealing when the game transitions to a free-to-play economy.

Remember that before to launch, PC gamers had the opportunity to play Concord for free, but very few really did. 2,388 concurrent players on Steam peaked during Concord’s free beta phase, which is still rather low. However, it is more than the game was able to attract for $40, and maybe it will eventually reverse its negative public impression, as previous live service games have done.

If Concord returns as a free-to-play game on Steam, its PSN membership restriction is a significant barrier that will probably still cause a lot of issues. Review bombing and outright refusing to play the games are two ways that many Steam users have criticized Sony’s PSN requirement for its Steam games. Therefore, Concord could still have trouble attracting Steam customers to try it out even if it returns as a completely free-to-play game.
