The rumours around the release date of Grand Theft Auto 6 have intensified now that our return to Vice City is confirmed.

Fans are eager to find out when they may take control of Lucia and play a completely new Grand Theft Auto for the first time in over ten years after last year’s teaser (and rumors of a second one).

It goes beyond the release date as well. There is still so much about Grand Theft Auto 6 that is unknown. What is the expected amount? Will the online mode match GTA 5’s level of ambition?

That being said, compared to this time last year, we know a great deal more. Let’s examine all of the information that is currently available.

When is the GTA 6 release date? Our speculation and estimate

This was disclosed by Take-Two at their fiscal year 2024 earnings call, which concluded on March 31. The announcement of the release window is intended to allay concerns raised by Take-Two’s failure to meet its annual profit targets.

CEO of Take-Two Strauss Zelnick stated, “Our outlook reflects a narrowing of Rockstar Games’ previously established window of calendar 2025 to fall of calendar 2025 for Grand Theft Auto VI,” and that Take-Two “expects to deliver sequential growth in net bookings for fiscal 2025, 2026 and 2027” as a result. Strauss Zelnick was speaking ahead of time, knowing that GTA 6 will bring in enormous sums of money.

Some have speculated that the game would not be revealed until May of next year, while others claim it has been moved to 2026. We’ll update this page as soon as we have concrete information!

Can you pre-order GTA 6?

Pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto 6 are not being accepted, and Rockstar is still withholding a lot of information until the game is ready for release.

Going off past releases, it’s probable that pre-orders won’t go live until a good six months or so out from the game, even if the likes of Amazon, GAME and such do upload placeholder pages in the meanwhile.

Is there a trailer for GTA 6?

Yes, on December 4, 2023, Rockstar officially released the first GTA 6 trailer. The developer was compelled to publish ahead of schedule because it leaked several hours earlier than expected.

The 90-second teaser provides us a decent glimpse at Leonida, Lucia, and her male boyfriend while Tom Petty’s Love Is a Long Road plays in the background.

Watch the teaser below:

Another trailer isn’t anticipated until at least late in 2024. Depending on if the game releases during its planned window, it might even be 2025.

Where will the GTA 6 map be set?

The teaser appears to have verified the rumors that Grand Theft Auto 6 will take place in Vice City! That’s what we think the large “VICE” sign that appears halfway through signifies, anyhow. Furthermore, the scene is extremely Florida. An alligator in a store is even featured in a clip.

But after launch, it seems like the game might go beyond Miami. According to a Bloomberg story, “Rockstar’s plan is now to continually update the game over time, adding new missions and cities on a regular basis.”

Long-time fans have predicted that the map will still be bigger than Red Dead Redemption 2 and Grand Theft Auto V. Additionally, purported GTA leaker Tez2 has mentioned that a recent GTA+ poll questioned certain players if they would use a fast-travel option, which is probably being considered for GTA 6.

The following is a statement from Rockstar that was made public in 2022 after the game was extensively leaked:

“With every new project we embark on, our goal is always to significantly move beyond what we have previously delivered.”

Anticipate a more expansive and superior gaming experience compared to Grand Theft Auto V.

Over on Reddit, a user has collated a big number of data and things learnt about Vice City in GTA 6, which includes details on how it “seems to be around 2.5 x larger than Los Santos in city size”.

The thread contains a wealth of information about the map, including specifics on villages and other locations outside of Vice City. It’s definitely worth taking a look!

Will the first female protagonist appear in the GTA 6 story?

We’re happy to confirm that these rumors are also accurate! Lucia is one of the two playable characters in the game. Since the original top-down two-dimensional game, she is the first playable female protagonist.

The plot and characters of Grand Theft Auto 6 are discussed in Bloomberg’s report. According to those acquainted with the game, GTA 6 “will include a playable female protagonist for the first time,” as stated in the report.

The article continues by noting: “The woman, who is Latina, will be one of a pair of leading characters in a story influenced by the bank robbers Bonnie and Clyde.”

The source also mentions how this next installment might modernize the GTA tone, saying, “Developers are also being cautious not to ‘punch’

Which platforms is GTA 6 coming to?

It has been verified by the GTA 6 trailer that the game will work on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, but it is unknown if GTA 6 will also work on the PS4 and Xbox One. After all, by the time GTA 6 is released in 2025, those consoles from the previous generation might be somewhat antiquated.

There will probably be a GTA 6 PC release date at some point, perhaps at launch or at a later time.

It’s reasonable to presume, however, that GTA 6 won’t be released for the Nintendo Switch because of its weak hardware. We don’t see any other way for this to be feasible except through the cloud or the rumored, more powerful Nintendo Switch successor. We’ll update you when we find out.

GTA 6 leaks

New information about Grand Theft Auto 6 is being leaked ahead of its release. According to the most recent rumored leaks, the game will have some amazing weather technology.

According to the sounds of the leak, dynamic weather in Grand Theft Auto 6 may have an impact on NPC behavior and actions, with temperature potentially being a factor.

It’s important to treat any leaks and rumors with caution, just like with anything else.

Finally, while this isn’t a leak as such, the Rockstar website has amended their GTA 6 profile to include placeholders for things like “Platform” and “Release Date” – as X user GTA 6 Countdown shared.

Below is a copy of our initial report on the September 2022 leaks.

In September 2022, 90 films purporting to be early GTA 6 development footage were released, giving us a glimpse of what the game would contain. The video appeared to confirm the addition of new male and female characters and to show off some open-world gameplay before it was removed.

Later, Rockstar stated that it is “extremely disappointed to have any details of our next game shared with you all in this way” after confirming the accuracy of the leaks. Rockstar asserts that “work on the next Grand Theft Auto game will continue as planned” in spite of the leak. You may read the entire statement below.

We experienced a recent network breach when an unapproved entity unlawfully gained access to and extracted sensitive data from our computers, encompassing preliminary development video intended for the upcoming Grand Theft Auto game.

“At this time, we do not anticipate any disruption to our live game services nor any long-term effect on the development of our ongoing projects,” Rockstar stated.

We are really sorry that this is how any information about our next game is being leaked to all of you. We’re going to keep working on the upcoming Grand Theft Auto game according to schedule, and we’re still fully committed to giving you, the players, an experience that goes above and beyond your expectations.

“We’ll give everyone another update shortly, and when the next game is ready, we’ll properly reveal it to you. We like to express our gratitude to everyone for their unwavering support throughout this time.”

Rockstar’s troubles are not over yet, though, because publisher Take-Two has patented an animation system that enables “highly dynamic and realistic animations,” as noticed by Reddit user u/Tobbelobben30 in the GTA 6 forum.

Tobbelobben30 continued by elucidating this in simple terms.

“This patent suggests that they’re employing a sophisticated system. A collection of tiny building pieces for character movements has been created. Numerous combinations of these blocks can be made to provide a broad variety of animations.”

It is possible to assemble all of these “building blocks” to deduce the movements and reactions of the player and other characters.

“Think about a character in the game wandering in the rain, feeling exhausted or being injured. Rather than creating distinct animations for every scenario, they employ these fundamental components to organically integrate the character’s motions.”

Very fascinating thing, that is! Given the level of meticulous detail in Red Dead Redemption 2, which boasts an already incredibly responsive animation system, a Rockstar release six or so years from now ought to be a visual marvel
