Everything is crazy. Humans put shoes over their heads and caps on their feet. Dogs and cats coexist together in this world. In addition to 343 Industries announcing a third-person camera option coming to Halo Infinite in November, Fortnite is now testing an FPS mode. As one of the first-person shooters transitioning to the third person, be careful with your loved ones; it seems like a metaphysical rupture is happening.
GamesRadar was the first to disclose that 343 Industries announced this heretical feature on X, “The Everything App.” The corresponding video displays what you would anticipate: Third-person multiplayer for Halo. It’s not the more traditional over-the-shoulder look made popular by Gears of War, but rather the maxed-out, slightly offset camera view used in Fortnite.
Although there isn’t a longer article detailing how the camera will function or be limited in-game, one segment of the movie suggests that we will have unrestricted access to switch between first and third person. It is yet to be discovered if 343 intends to create game types that especially utilize the new camera, whether it will be limited to a few game modes, and whether it will be playable in the much-overlooked campaign of Halo Infinite.
Jokes aside, there are some shockingly unfavorable remarks on X, “The Everything App.” Perhaps I have experienced enough negativity on the internet over completely innocent and inoffensive topics, but still: “Fortnite-ification of Halo,” “trend-chasing,” “I’m never playing again,”It looks a little overwhelming. In my view, when games allow it, I always like aimlessly switching between camera views. Furthermore, this isn’t even wholly novel: For the past 17 years, Halo has included a third-person perspective with heavy weaponry. Demand is evident as well: More than two years ago, a modder enhanced Halo Infinite’s campaign with a third-person perspective.
One may even argue that it’s a return to the series’ most fundamental Macintosh origins: Early screenshots of Halo: Combat Evolved revealed a third-person shooter that is much different from the first-person shooter that we ultimately saw. After the massive layoffs at series sponsor 343 Industries, Halo Infinite and the franchise as a whole are undoubtedly in terrible shape, but I think the third-person mode is a great addition to the game that may be entertaining.
